Mayor Dave Bing warned that Gov. Snyder’s proposed cutbacks could have potentially devastating effects on Detroit’s turnaround Tuesday in his second State of the City speech.

Bing reported that earlier pledges to bring several departments up to code fiscally and from a compliance standpoint remain on track.

According to Bing, the Detroit Police Department, which has been hamstrung by compliance issues for seven years, will reach its goal by the end of the year.

One of the more hotly-contested issues of late, Bing moved quickly to quell concerns from citizens over the newfound oversight of the water and sewage system from outlying cities.

“Detroit built this system; Detroit owns this system, and Detroit will manage this system going forward,” Bing said.

Bing also vowed to continue his crusade to cease the era of corruption that has plagued the city for years, and move forward with efforts to work cooperatively with other regional leaders.

About The Woodward Spine

The Woodward Spine was the brainchild of Michael Fossano and Jeffrey Buck, two Royal Oak, Mich. natives who met nearly 10 years ago while attending the now-defunct George A. Dondero High School. It seemed fitting for the two Wayne State University alums to craft an outlet to help continually refine their writing skills, while also serving as a trusted source of information for the metro Detroit community. The Woodward Spine aims to inform its readers about relevant news and events through creative and informative posts not only by Mike and Jeff, but other upstanding citizens as well who are driven and proficient in these core areas: news, opinion, entertainment, history, sports and development. The Woodward Spine serves the tri-county metro Detroit area, however concentrating mainly on the communities that lie along the Woodward corridor.
