Southgate’s Krave Salon came out on top Saturday night at Style Detroit, a seven-salon competition hosted by Detroit’s own UNEEK Collection at the Park Bar. Salons were tasked to create the most innovative and fashion-foward looks for 2012 by styling one model each from head to toe as an esteemed panel of judges used both crowd interaction and their own expertise to crown the winner.

Over 300 people were in attendance at the event, which was hosted by Nicole Vowell and sponsored by SwaggerBids, among a host of others. The show also included performances from Lewis Hensley, Brilliance, AFC and K-Deuce & DJ Fat Mac.
“This event tapped into every hairstylists inner passion for creativity in regards to fashion, hair, make up and all things cosmetic,” said Robert Courtney Collins, CEO of UNEEK Collection. “I think we struck gold with this type of event and we can’t wait for the next one.”
Other salons that participated in the event included VIP Salon, Day Break Salon, Salon 621, Epiphany, Sakora and Salon XL.
“The salons were extremely pleased with the event and truly appreciated the opportunity to be apart of something like that,” Collins said. “They also expressed appreciation for networking and meeting people outside their usual circles.”
Although it was UNEEK’s first time hosting a hair salon competition, Style Detroit stayed true to the brand’s core purpose–which is actually an acronym for Unifying Nationalities by Encouraging Education & Knowledge.
“As with past events, we tried to add an element of creativity that brings together people from different backgrounds,” Collins said.
