If the kids are off of school and you’re looking for something to do, look no further. The Detroit Zoo is offering $2 off all regular-price admissions to the Detroit Zoo in recognition of Presidents’ Week. The discounted admission is only available with the printed coupon which can be downloaded from the zoo’s website. The coupon is good from today until February 24.
Although it may be a little frigid to us during this time of the year, certain animals adapt very well to the low temperatures. Japanese macaques (snow monkeys) are not afraid to take a dip in their hot tub on a frigid day. The Amur tigers, wolverines, red pandas, elk and bison also adapt well to colder weather.
If you find yourself feeling a bit icy make your way over to the always popular Arctic Ring of Life. Vistors are treated to underwater views of seals and polar bears via the 70-foot underwater Frederick and Barbara Erb Polar Passage. If you still want to take it up a few degrees make your way to the Butterfly Garden where the 75 degree temperature will warm you up quickly.
Other indoor experiences at the Zoo include the National Amphibian Conservation Center, Penguinarium, Holden Museum of Living Reptiles, Great Apes of Harambee, Edward Mardigian Sr. River Otter Habitat and Meerkat Digs. The giraffe, white rhino, lemur and farm animal habitats also have indoor viewing areas. Special maps are available at the admission gate to help guests plan their winter visit to the Zoo.
