Mike is off to Chicago with his dad this week to take in the Chicago Auto Show and hopefully come back with some words on how different the event was from the NAIAS here in Detroit. With that said, he texted me the other night to tell me our WSU Warriors made it on the ESPN Top 10 list. I was a little shocked at first but I have been following them a bit this year and know they are having a really good year.

The Joyce Center, home to the Notre Dame hockey team since 1968, has hosted numerous future NHL players over the years. As it looks toward its final year, the school’s athletic department is asking fans to vote for an All-Joyce Center Team. You’re probably wondering why we would be doing a post on a school in Indiana, but truth be told several current and former Red Wings honed their skills there, as well as a handful of Michigan natives. According to the site, voting will run through Sunday, Feb. 20 at 5:00 p.m. EST, and fans may vote once per day.
As far as I can tell there are two players nominated with ties to the Red Wings Organization. Here are their bios as provided by the site:
2000-04 • 5-10, 195 • Buffalo Grove, Ill./USA Under-18 Team
Played in 152 career games at Notre Dame … selected second team all-CCHA (’03-’04) … selected to CCHA all-rookie team (’00-’01) … winner of William Donald Nyrop Award as team’s top defenseman (is 11th among defensemen in scoring with 26 goals and 59 assists for 85 career points … tied for ninth on all-time penalty minute list with 239 career minutes … member of first Irish team to advance to the NCAA Tournament (’03-’04) … signed as a free agent with the Detroit Red Wings following 2003-04 season … has played six seasons in the NHL with Detroit and Toronto.
