Vote for your favorite window display

sliderlogos

By Jeffrey Buck

Holiday window shopping hasn’t been the same in Detroit since the Hudson’s flagship store closed over 25 years ago. Well, that’s all about to change as the Somerset Collection retailers transform several windows along Woodward in what has been dubbed ‘Once Upon a Holiday.’

Holiday shoppers and downtown pedestrians will be delighted to see that both sides of Woodward between Grand River and Witherell will have their window displays transformed by such retailers as GAP, Pottery Barn, 7 For All Mankind, Sephora, Eddie Bauer, Kiehl’s, Willmas-Sonoma and more.

The Sommerset Collection and Bedrock Real Estate are are asking for the public’s help to identify the best window display. The voting period has already begun and will end on Friday, December 20. The displays are part of Holiday DLight: Made in Detroit and all visitors are encouraged to vote for their favorite display by clicking here.

The winning display will be crowned on Monday, December 23 and the first 1,000 people to vote will receive a voucher for a free cupcake from Just Baked.

Detroit -Vs- Everybody

DETROIT -VS- EVERYBODY

DETROIT -VS- EVERYBODY

By Jeffrey Buck

I love Detroit apparel, it’s no secret if you know me, and when we first started posting articles and photos I did a write up on some of my favorites. I may be a little late to the party on this one but I know what brand I will be purchasing next, Detroit -Vs- Everybody. Offering a few different versions of their staple plain Monochrome Collection t-shirt, they also have two other great designs using the Detroit skyline and Spirit of Detroit.

Designs are printed on a variety of men’s and women’s apparel including t-shirts, crewneck and hooded sweatshirts. Prices can range form $30 to $55 and can either be bought online or by visiting their store in Greektown. Open everyday except Tuesday with typical hours of 11 AM to 8 PM, except on weekends when they open at noon (Sat. & Sun.) and close early on Sundays at 6 PM. You can find them in the Greektown International Building at 400 Monroe Avenue, Suite 340 in downtown Detroit.

Be sure to find them on Facebook and Twitter.

We’d love to see you showing off your Detroit pride, send us a photo of you in your favorite apparel representing the Motor City!

Fashion Friday – Simple Summer Staples

By Stephanie Saviola

Simple Summer Staples

For summer outfits, I like to keep it pretty casual with the exception of dresses. But for my basics I love this tee-shirt by T by Alexander Wang. It’s so soft and fits perfectly. It goes great with high-wasted shorts or a skirt. For the sunglasses, these fun pink shades from Karen Walker are playful change up from solid black or tortoise color frames. As for the clutch, the neon chevron lines go great with a dressed up or dressed down look.

Beauty Essentials

Beauty Essentials

I decided to take a little break from the usual clothing posts and mix it up a bit. Here are several new beauty products mixed with some older favorites that I use on a daily basis:
  • Bumble & Bumble “Surf” spray – I picked this up a few months ago and can’t get enough of it. It gives your hair that fresh off the beach feel– perfect loose, messy waves.
  • Benefit “They’re Real!” mascara – The best volumizing mascara I’ve used in a long time. It goes on so clean and is easy to remove, as well.
  • Marvis toothpaste in “Aquatic Mint” – All the credit for this product goes to Mr. Buck, who gifted me some on his latest trip to Chicago (thank you!!). I have never loved a toothpaste so much.
  • Tarte lip stain – A little bit goes a long way with this staple of mine. It’s the perfect shade of red and is easy to apply unlike the liquid stains.
  • Smith’s Rosebud Salve – I’ve been using this as chapstick for years and the shine is nice and subtle. In the winter, I apply it to my cuticles for repair.
  • AA makeup bag – This bag helps w/ stay organized with 3 separate compartments. It’s easy to clean if you have a makeup spill and I love the bright color of the bag too!
