Register by August 14 and save $5

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – Thousands of runners and walkers will lace up their running shoes and head over to the Detroit Zoo on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015, for the 19th annual Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo. Proceeds from the event benefit the Ruth Roby Glancy Animal Health Complex and veterinary care for the Zoo’s animals.

The event includes a 5K run, 10K run, Too Wild! 5K + 10K combo and noncompetitive 1.5-mile fun walk. Runners in the 5K and 10K events will start at the Zoo’s 10 Mile Road entrance and wind through the scenic streets of Huntington Woods surrounding the Zoo. Walkers will follow a course past award-winning animal habitats as they stroll through Zoo grounds.

Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo begins with the 5K run at 8 a.m., followed by the 10K run at 9 a.m. and the untimed fun walk at 9:15 a.m. Online registration is available at www.detroitzoo.org/runwild until 6 a.m. Sept. 11, and registration will also be available at the Zoo on Sept. 11, 12 and 13. Participants who register by Aug. 14 receive $5 off their registration fee.

New this year, family and friends can sponsor Run Wild participants by making a donation at http://www.crowdrise.com/RunWildfortheDetroitZoo.

Medals will be presented to the top two male and female finishers in each age category. All participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt as well as free admission to the Zoo on race day. Regular Zoo admission applies for non-race participants.

A post-race party sponsored by Kroger will follow the Run Wild event with live music, family entertainment, and complimentary food and beverages.

Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo has been recognized as a quality physical activity event by the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness. The Governor’s Council endorses local, regional and state events to acknowledge an organization’s ability to plan and carry out a quality event that significantly contributes to the health and well-being of Michigan residents.

Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo is supported by Ford Motor Company, Genisys Credit Union, Kroger, Moosejaw, Pepsi and Tim Hortons.

Are you still thinking about participating in this year’s Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo? You have until Friday, August 15th to take advantage of the current fees before they increase by $5 each. There are four different events being offered this year and include:

Fun Walk: $20 | $25

5K Race: $25 | $30

10K Race: $30 | $35

5K & 10K Combo: $50 | $55

This family-friendly event is offered to all ages. Participants receive free admission to the zoo for the day, a commemorative t-shirt and a post-race party that includes food and drinks. The Fun Walk follows a 1.5 mile path through the Detroit Zoo. The 5K & 10K races begin at the 10 Mile entrance of the zoo and then follow a course through the City of Huntington Woods ending back at the zoo.

Race day is Sunday, September 14th!

Run Wild this Weekend at the Detroit Zoo

It’s not to late to sign up for the annual Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo benefit being held this Sunday, September 15. Join thousands of other runners and walkers as they help support the Zoo’s Ruth Glancey Animal Health Complex and veterinary care.

You still have a few options when it comes to signing up. Last day for online registration is today, click here to sign up. You can also register in person at the zoo on Sept. 13, 14 or 15.

The activities will begin at 8 a.m. and include 5K and 10K runs through the streets of Huntington Woods. There will also be a noncompetitive 1.5-mile fun walk through a special course that takes participants by award-winning habitats throughout the zoo grounds.

Medals will be awarded to the top two male and female finishers in each age category.  Don’t worry though because all participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt as well as free admission to the Zoo on race day. A post-race extravaganza will take place following the runs and include all sorts of fun activities and food ranging from live music and appearances by the Detroit Zoo mascots.

Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo is supported locally by Ford Motor Company, Kroger, Community Choice Credit Union, WJR 760 AM, 93.1 Doug FM, 96.3 WDVD and the Southeastern Michigan Veterinary Medical Association.

Start Times:

5K Run: 8 a.m. (10 Mile Entrance)

10K Run: 8:45 a.m. (10 Mile Entrance)

Packets will not be mailed to participants. Packets will be available for pickup on Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 6 a.m. to 8:45 p.m.

Time to run ‘Wild’ at the Detroit Zoo

It’s that time of year again. Time to get out the running shoes and go ‘Wild’ at the zoo.

The Detroit Zoo will be playing host to its annual Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo on Sunday, September 16. The event is comprised of three events; 5K and 10K runs, as well as a noncompetitive 1.5-mile Fun Walk. Participants in the running events will cruise through the scenic streets of Huntington Woods surrounding the Zoo while walkers will enjoy award-winning animal habitats as they stroll through Zoo grounds.

Sign up by Friday to take advantage of a $5 discount. Here are all the details about the events:

  • Start Times: 5K at 8 a.m. | 10 K at 8:45 a.m. | Walk at 9:00 a.m.
  • Online Registration through Sept. 12 at detroitzoo.org/runwild
  • Zoo Registration available Sept. 14, 15 & 16

Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo

If you are a runner and are looking for an event this weekend you still have until tomorrow to register  for the “Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo”. The event takes place at the Detroit Zoo this Sunday, September 18th. Collin and I will be participating in the 5K event this year and are both looking forward to the festivities and tons of sweat!
